Empowering Clients with Self-Pay

Why don’t we bill insurance directly?

We want you to be in the driver’s seat.

Whether you are seeking treatment for yourself or your child, we want you to be in charge of your treatment. Along with your therapist, HTC wants you to determine your course and plan for healing. Insurance coverage can limit the number of sessions and dictate what kind of treatment you receive, and we believe that decision should be made by you and your therapist.

You don’t necessarily need a diagnosis.

For insurance to cover your treatment, a formal diagnosis is required. This means you must meet clinical criteria for a diagnosis to be added to your permanent medical record by way of the superbill provided to you for insurance reimbursement. This could affect future ratings on life or health insurance premiums, as well as have an impact on education or career options. You may choose to pay privately in order to ensure confidentiality. Not everyone who seeks therapy needs a mental health diagnosis; we know how hard it can be out there, and how talking it through can help.

We believe you should have access to high-quality, personalized therapy without evidence of a mental illness that needs to be treated or cured.

Burnout prevention.

By providing services under a private pay model, we are better able to maintain a work-life balance for our clinicians. Insurance does not necessarily cover therapy at the market rate, thereby decreasing flexibility in scheduling.

We are here for you, not your insurance company. Insurance companies can sometimes dictate our work together, including how often we can meet, how long we can work together, and what type of therapy you can have. Your well-being is our top priority, and we are simply not willing to allow a third party to compromise the quality of your therapy and our work together.
